TerraMadreFoundation asks:Soybeans Equal Protien--At What Cost?

Seems as if the "Vegan/Carnivore" conversation is revving up. Tofu can be made to taste good, as can prime rib. Can we continue murdering the helpless plants with wanton disregard to the herbivores that surely suffer from our Vegan desires? The choices that one must make everyday are based on salt and other spices.

Good question...

but what is our choice? Either we destroy animals for our food, or we destroy plants. We have to eat to live.

Sometimes "squidgey jelly" can be ATTRACTIVE!!

When food isn't an involved factor! We have indeed ingested Tofo, in several different flavors, and have yet to send the recipes back home to Mamma---

if oyur not on a strictly "imposed" diet

then your body will tell you what to eat. assuming you are not single type oriented consumer (aka omnivore) then you may find yourself devouring that fish's skin which you usually discard, if you are low on certain vital elements and vitamins. tofu or whatever... you may add salt and spices but you cannot add appetite to what you eat; because ultimately your body dictates that.

and one more thing: don't impose strict diets on yourself whether it be vegeterianism or carnivorism.

I have also...

been reading that fofu and other soy products are not as healthy as they are telling us, and could even be harmful. What up with that?
Comments:
if you'd take heed from modern day dieticians there are countless risks on countless food items... and even though the foods wouldn't kill one, the stress accumulated from such circumspect life could. if it looks and smells good, eat it!
on the second thought, the risk that is cited about soy beans or tofu, can be referenced to the dangers of living off single type nutriment.
But be CAREFUL, keewi, as some very poisonous plants "look and smell good"!

err so

it's not just me with doubts about tofu.. i must do some research on Soya... sounds like it might be intere3sting...
Comments:
stavy, one's taste buds, sense of smell and eyes are there for a reason... the risk comes not from specific eatery but from specific consumption style... -that style being rigidity of a diet.

Matter of personal preferences

Finally you have to eat SOMETHING whether tofu or cottage cheese, ham or Pizza, I would just make sure I eat as much I need and waste nothing
Atleast that way I am making a miniscule contribution to saving whatever I am eating

Soybeans Equal Protien--At What Cost?

What kind of world has created humans who don't understand the life cycle or propose not eating altogether and call attaining sustenance "murder"?

I think it is time to set aside the ideal and look at life as it is. Eeryone has to kill to eat, either themselves by purchasing prepackaged, slaughtered cattle or by cutting and uprooting fruits and vegetables.
Comments:
Hello to our friend SageMother, Perhaps we shouldn't have used the term "Murder". We know life-cycles, and we appreciate your kind input! We often find the our sophmoric sarcasm gets its due. Please continue to add your ideas to our discussions!

i always cry

when i see a poor murdered carrot..

I can see a new campaign starting.. 'Save The Carrots' 'Carrots are People too'

As Sagemother says you can take the extreme to ever wider and more ridiculous limits. I am an omnivore.. we were all made that way, whether by 'God' or illegal aliens (Von Daniken stylee) and while 'they' were at it, put lots of tasty things on four legs, on trees, in the earth for us to discover and eat.
Comments:
Save The Carrots, Hell!! Those tubers have wanton disregard for all things dissiduous, not to mention the poor, struggling conifers and their cousins, the Redwoods (Randy and Rosie). Harumph! Your Friend TMF
