stavy asks:vegetarians....

Do you have to take vitamin supplements to make sure you get the necessary nutrients you are missing out on by not eating meat? All the veggies i knw are weedy pasty faced types who are always cold, or ill, or both...

I will not say that

I think you are surely looking at some wrong kind of veggie people out there....vegetarianism has nothing to do with being ill..infact many think it is much more healthier option...the key thing is to remember to eat a blanced diet..where nutrients can come from all kinds of fruits and vegetables.

Carnivores By Accident

Travel on the highways, via motorcycle, often consuming living creatures orally, and even occasionally nasally. We trust that the Vegan bikers have the proper remedy for this ghastly happenstance!

that's my point

atula.. do you just eat vegetables and fruit and nothing else? That isn't very balanced. What about protein? How do you get that?

Hence my question about supplements.. because our bodies need all these things that you cannot just get from eating the lawn...

i don't know if

that is strictly true Keewi, but i am curious as to whether all the nutrients required can properly be found just in vegetables? Which veggies provide protein for instance?

Stavy's Vegetarian Friends

Are very aptly described. We notice the same pasty, gray skin, and very obvious illness problems. Having said that, we also totally respect the rights of our neighbors to eat anything they choose! As is true in most other human behavior, there will always be disagreement. As for us, tonight is "Dead Cow Night", with some token greens and starches to calm the crowds! We gladly put our CANINE TEETH to the use for which they were intended!

i can agree to that

to a certain extent heretoday.. vitamin supplements can't hurt.. but a better way is to have a good balanced diet, from all the food groups and avoiding junk, sugar and fats as much as possible...

Wow, Stavy...

your description makes me NOT want to ever become a vegetarian, lol. Anyway, to your question...I'm not a vegetarian but I have heard that some take vitamin supplements and some do not.

not eating meat

could cause problems as we, cognitive humans have become so since our ape ancestors... that is, when we became able to obtain the concentrated energy in meat more easily. abundancy of meat has "buffed up" the ape's brain, the ape that became known as "human". so in this sense meat is what makes us "us"... and omitting it from diet could be gravely wrong.

Vita-poppers

When our family went vegetarian, we substituted our vitamins that contained meat products for vegetarian vitamins. Supplements are a good way to make sure, in this fast and complicated world, that we are getting all the nutrients we need. My 6'5" son, vegetarian since the age of six, might be able to change weedy perceptions if you could see him playing pick-up basketball.

lol TMF.. my fellow

carnivore, my dead animal of the night is a nice juicy fluffy sheep... served with greek salad of course... ;)

heretoday, thanks for answering the question... so as i assumed, if you want to be a vegetarian you have to get the needed proteins from supplements... would your strapping sporty son be quite as fit without them?

personally i can't ever imagine a handful of pills being any substitue for a hunk of 'dead cow' as TMF so charmingly puts it.. heheh..

sorry guys...

But it's basically a fact that a person, carnie or veggie, has a very hard time making sure that they ingest the correct amount of ALL nutrients a body needs in a day. Thus, a prudent person, carnie or veggie, takes a good vitamin supplement everyday.

Or Not. Several studies show that some vitamins cause much more harm than good. Our parents taught and explained to us the proper methods of NATURAL vitamin and protien sources!

I don't know anyone like that.

I don't know any vegetarians like that at all. And they don't usually just eat fruits and veggies....they just don't eat meat. So they still eat pasts and breads and such, and they get protein from things like eggs and nuts. It can be well-balanced with some effort.
