How do you measure the age of trees?

The method used to date most things is carbon dating, but this is usually reserved for fossils.

I don' think there is any other way to date living trees, outside of counting the rings, but I could be wrong!

but if ring

counting works ok, why look for something else? If you know about trees, you can probably tell by looking at it whether it is a mature tree, by the growth... I'll leave it to the experts!
