off on holiday shortly

I Heard that a tray filled with pebbles and water can raise the humidity around the plants, slowing their water use.

There was also a system that used osmotic pressure.

Have you tried a Google search?

Aqua Globes

What about something like this:

There are other waterers/globes like that around, too.

bottles and bathroom

I do two things when I go out..I either keep all my potted plants in the bathroom....that helps them retain the moisture of the already humid space.and survive
I also use a trick called holed bottle in which I keep filled plastic bottles in each pots with a hole near the bottom. Water slowly drips to the soil and keeps the plant well watered for sometime.
