Ace Fisch

Mutation is always happening in the natural world. It is through random mutation that some animals are able to better adapt to the changing environment. Mutation is not caused so much by environmental changes as it is a way for animals to survive these changes.

Sure some animals have gained mutations that are helpful surviving in the warming environment- that's what evolution is all about- but the birth of a new species is a long way off I think. Certainly better adapted varieties of animals will evolve, as they always have, but evolution is a long process and it will take millions of years for new species to energy from random genetic mutations.

A truly new species?

I'm uncertain if a species that develops through mutation is considered a truly new species or is, rather, a variant on a previous one. But Ace is definitely correct, mutation is a constant in the natural world.
