So how does the ordinary joe in the street, check to see what sort of impoact his household is having on the environment aroound him?

There are several sites
Many have carbon footprint calculators. Just google it. My big problem is that they want you to pay a certain amount and then they will plant trees....or something like that.....BUT they never ask you if you have planted trees on your own. They just assume that you do nothing more than recycle, if that.
