TerraMadreFoundation asks:Is Al Gore Still Important?

He's shown how climate change has become a huge problem, but the media seem to shrug him off.

more important is the cause.

Terra...there are so many people in this world who keep on working inspite of the media attention they get or don't get. If the cause really means something to them..they will keep doing it all their life. So the real question we should ask is Is Al Gore still as committed to his cause of climate change..or was it just a media stint...

Maybe His Wife Knows Better

We appreciate what Al has started, but we have genuine concerns regarding his lifestyle (private jets, huge houses, etc.). Is it O.K. to travel as he does and still remain believeable?

Al Gore.....

should be applauded for the work he has done in making the 'Truth' more accessible to ordinary people. It got everyone talking. Sometimes it takes a well known face, being there at just the right time and saying what people need to hear.

His personal lifestyle choices may not be to my taste, but he may have good reason (for instance security) for using a private jet rather than flying commercial.

Thanks, Stavy, for a kinder, more thoughtful dialogue.

In the Future

Al Gore will be recognised as the great man he is. His political ego is overpowered by his love of this country, and there aren't alot of politicians around who are that way. His causes, the country and the world, mean more to him than momentary adulation.

Well...dudb;t ge win a Nobel Prize or something?

I'm not saying that he is important for winning such an award, but Al Gore has always been interested in environmental issues, and I don't think that he will every stop.

I know alot of people criticize Al Gore; but, I wonder, why?

Terra Madre, Al Gore is a rich man. He may use private jets, which I think would be a more earth-friendly mode of transport than huge jets. He may have a huge house; John McCain has how many of them? Gore's is green, are John's multiple digs?
Do you feel this way only about Al Gore being a rich man, or do you feel this way about all rich men? What is this, class warfare :)?
Comments:
Why do you bring up McCain? Move on into the present. We are comfortably wealthy, and choose to travel commercially. Carbon per passenger mile is much more eco-friendly than private jet.
Why did you bring up Al Gore? You're more stuck in the past, if you want to use your logic. Many of the "comfortably wealthy" do seem to have a stick up the backside regarding Al Gore, why should that be?
