What is it that makes humans seem to want this to be true? Global cooling, global warming....either way, why are we all so seemingly eager to believe that it's doomsday?

Some people thrive on the drama
They like to live in a crisis mode. They like there to be the sense of urgency that may otherwise be lacking in their lives. It makes them feel important. For some, it has replaced religious piety.
