There have been 75 major temperature swings in the last 4500 years. It was much warmer in the 1300's than it is now (and I'm pretty sure it wasn't the SUVs that did it). We were in a mini ice age from around 1400 to around 1900. Planetary scientists know this. So why all the fuss about global warming? Why do so many ignore the science and history on the matter?

History and Global Warming

If we had the same population and the same technology available as was during the previous temperature swing, there would e no discussion. Now that records are being kept and compared to what we are able to measure now, it is easier to generate fear.

If the general public understood more about climate cycles, they would be more able to generate ideas on how to adapt, instead of expressing this never ending fear. As it is, the people who are most fearful are yelling the loudest without taking time to understand how our world works.

These are the same people who don't understand that many of the "chemicals" they hate actually occur in nature, and that the human body uses chemical reactions to function properly.

Interesting Side Note

A petition compiled by a past president of the National Academy of Sciences has attracted the signatures of
more than 19,000 American scientists. All agree the science of climate change, and man’s role in it, is
uncertain. The Petition reads in part: “There is no convincing scientific evidence that human release of carbon
dioxide, methane, or other greenhouse gasses is causing or will, in the foreseeable future, cause catastrophic
heating of the Earth's atmosphere and disruption of the Earth's climate. Moreover, there is substantial scientific
evidence that increases in atmospheric carbon dioxide produce many beneficial effects upon the natural plant
and animal environments of the Earth.”

Distracted masses

It seems to me as though the individuals with the most to gain from shamelessly exploiting natural resources for financial reward are willing to do whatever is needed to distract the masses from concluding the truth about global warming by hiring dubious "experts" to muddy the waters.
