I could give them up since I am diabetic and it anything sweet is bad for me.
I used to drink a lot of cola before but now that I am sick I am just going to forget about them.

I could...
give carbonated beverages up, I think. I've been drinking a lot of iced tea in cans lately anyway.

We could give carbonated drink, but should we, I think not.
We could give up carbonated drinks, but the world world be a worse place, I love my fizzy drink, and they cause less harm than Alcohol!
