I am left handed

and i can't knit! Never found a leftie knitter that can teach me. I do crochet though, but mostly beadspreads and tablecloths and stuff like that... more a winter pastime for me really...

My grandma

taught me.. she could make the most amazing lace with a thin crochet hook that was more like a fat sewing needle and fine cotton.. I have a lace bedspread she made for me as a wedding present... took her 7 months of continuous work as I had a queen size bed.. it is beautiful and i am very careful with it.. something like that bought in a shop would cost thousands.. I'm not that good, but have learned to do some quite complicated patterns but with a larger hook!

A Real Treasure...

Your lace bedspread is truly a treasure! I admire your grandma!
I remember reading that lace making was one of the only ways women had to support themselves and their family in the past. Something that lovely, made without machines or electricity!

there you are

relaxing, rewarding and money saving as well!

something like that, hand made and with love is always appreciated as a gift above some shop bought tat that goes straight into the back of a cupboard!

I am impressed....

A lefty who crochets, and bedspreads and tablecloths...I've never done such a large work; I have made a comforter or two. It's a good hobby, it takes no outside energy (well, maybe a light bulb) and when you're done, you have something very useful.

I used to knit...

but I never really learned to make anything. I always found knitting to be very relaxing though. I think maybe I will take it up again and learn how to make a sweater or something.

I keep meaning to take it up again...

but I don't seem to get around to it. I agree with chris1203 about it being relaxing though. I'm not sure I'd be able to knit anything amazing but perhaps a scarf would be quite nice.

good advice

I started knitting with a muffler for myself, and I felt such a sense of accomplishment! Next Xmas I had knitted a muffler for just about everyone on my gift list.
