and living on my little island in the north, i am fortunate that we can get fruits from all over the world. I love things like peaches and bananas, and grapes, oranges, passionfruit, mangoes etc but they don't grow here. Should i as a conciously striving to be greener person, give up all this sort of fruit, because of the carbon cost of bringing them to my home?

Can i balance it enough by doing my best to buy only 'fair trade' goods, or from sustainable and organic farming?

It could be argued

That if the fruits are being shipped to your region anyway, then avoiding them for environmental reasons would only send them to the dumpster. Better maybe to enjoy the fruits of the world, and reduce carbon footprint some other ways!

that is a good point

i knew i liked you! THat means i can carry on eating!

If demand drops though, won't it then stop them shipping here?

Eating Definitely

Has its good points! We feel that it is very important in a normal lifestyle. Demand is "what the majority wants". Tell your friends to eat more exotic fruit and stop using carbon-based fuels.
