Anyone know how to colour fabrics using homemade vegetable dyes? I have some plain muslin I want to colour to make curtains and stuff, and would like to try the tie-dye work i used to do years ago.. Cold dyes used then are not really eco friendly, but i have heard you can get good colour just from vegetation. Any ideas?

Twiceshy asks:Sky lights and heat

I want to install a couple of skylights in my roof, but I am concerned that they will allow too much heat to escape in the winter months, and will let too much heat in during the summer months.

Has anyone here installed sky lights? are they insulated well enough to prevent these heat issues from being a problem?

they insulate your house even more. They keep the rooms cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter. They save you on heating and cooling costs. They are a bit of a problem to clean, though. Even so, would you like double windows in your home?

TerraMadreFoundation asks:Log Homes Renewable?

We have gotten both good and bad responses regarding the log home industry. It seems that we should use fewer paper tissues and towels, but the allure of a log home seems to transcend the arguement. What do you think?

I am talking of the lights that are recessed int othe ceiling and appear quite nice..without a buld protruding from the walls....but I have heard these lights use immense amount of energy and if you do plan to install these...do make sure you can have the option of using leds inside.

This will definitely be one of the options I"m looking at when we buy our house and I hear more and more people are starting to switch to this method of heating and cooling... my question is two fold. What's involved in installing such a system? How much does it cost?

I saw a program on TV where a couple were showing off their 600square foot apartment. There were lots of clever innovations, but wouldn't you feel claustrophobic in such a limited space?
