An old toothbrush
And good old peroxide (bleach occurs naturally) in the mixture of one to one with water. Also, try trisodium phosphate, but don't mix it with the bleach.

a friend also suggested a paste made of bicarbonate of soda and the trusty old toothbrush.

Speaking of toothbrushes...
Some folk swear by toothpaste (baking soda or whiteners) as just the right abrasive to scrub your grout clean and get it white again.
