I'm wondering, because of higher costs and the extremely high price of replacement batteries, are hybrids less expensive or more expensive to operate than a regular all-gasoline powered vehicle? I know they are better for the environment, but I"m still wondering.

For the environment......they are worse!

Apparently, according the environmental impact studies, they are much worse for the environment. From the building to the disposal of them. The ONLY thing that they don't do is use as much gas. All in all, it's just not enough.

Are hybrids worth the extra cost?

It's one of those times where waiting might be the wiser option. As with all technology, it gets cheaper over time.

I think that there are probably some cheaper hybrids around, but they are made by foreign companies. If you don't mind not 'buying American", it will be the foreign hybrids becoming more affordable first.

Ofcourse...

there are soo many benefits that they're worth every penny... it would be nice for them to be cheaper but they will definitely pay themselves of in their life time so as they get more and more mass produced it's a bigger incentive to get one.

Frankie and heretoday

Seem to grasp the big issue, that is things are too readily accepted sometimes, at the expense of the real goals in the long run.

Beta versions of anything, well...

My husband never buys a 1.0 version of any software, no matter how attractive, because there are almost always bugs to be worked out. I wonder if the same is true of hybrid technology?
