SageMother asks:Human Rights and Land

It's almost impossible for families to buy enough land to be self sufficient by growing at least a portion of their own food.
Do you think the land ownership should be considered a basic human right?

more people, less land

I think the problem with such a kind of free land to all policy will be the usual, there is less land and more people, which will mean more fights, and conquests...and in the modern world...I don;t know what all law suits filed and millions of court cases...so while the idea of self sustainability is very good...istead of free land to all...there can be something like a community land in a small area, where people of a small community can harvest their own crops etc...and come a little closer ot self sustaibility...

Its completely obvious that Land is a Basic Right

Of course Land is a basic human right. Can anyone live in the sky? or on the ocean? Of course people need Land to Live as everyone must live somewhere. When we think of Land rights we generally think of rural Land but even the Land under every house in a city is of course Land. Land is something which no human being labored to create yet it is also something which we all need in order to Live. Land and resources that no one labored to create belong to all of us. That which I labor to create rightfully belongs to me and this is the true Spirit of Capitalism. It is impossible to consciously Love another human being while at the same time charging them to Live. This places a price on Life and we all know that Life is invaluable. When the founders of America said that it was apparent that all men/women were created equal with the right to Life, Liberty and the pursuit of happiness they definitely understood that to have the right to Life automatically involves the right to Land which in turn secures an individual's liberty from the dictates of other individuals and allows them to pursue what truly makes them happy. The right to Life's necessities is the foundation to a truly open and just society. America became the great nation it is due solely to the fact that the homestead act opened the doorway to freedom for countless individuals and allowed their creativity to flow. There is a simple way to resolve the Land issue and make it completely fair for each and everyone of us. Return ALL LAND back to the Public Domain and charge leases and ALL LAND (even Land in a city) based on supply and demand and take the resulting revenue generated from the leases and return 100% of it back to each and every man, woman and child EQUALLY in the form of a yearly Land Dividend Check. This in effect makes the average piece of Land Free to everyone. Those who lease more desirable Land will of course pay more in lease fees that those leasing the average piece of Land and will receive a check smaller than the lease fees they pay but on the flip side those who lease less desirable Land (like desert Land) which has no demand will most likely pay nothing in lease fees which will make the yearly check they receive 100% "profit". Those leasing the average Land will receive a check exactly equal to the lease fee hence the average piece of Land will be Free. As individual relearn the this most basic right and begin integrating these principles back into our social structure we will all reap enormous benefits. Just imagine yourself having you own piece of Land with enough space to build shelter and possibly grow some or even all of your own food. You owe nothing to anyone. Your time is now your own to choose what to do with your Life.

Peace and Friendship,

Scott

I don't think it's a right

I think it would be a great system if everyone had access to grow food, but I don't think that land ownership should be considered a basic right.

It's interesting how the current economy is raising questions like this. I can imagine some people would draw a comparison between this conversation and communism.

It's not communism

I grew up under communism. We aren't there yet.

No, it's not a basic human right. But if you can buy land then you should be able to OWN it....not be leasing it from the government.
