kushinada asks:Staph Infections

My poor puppy is constantly getting staph infections because of fleas, or so his vet says. It is responsive to antibiotics ... however, I don't want to have to give him a pill for the rest of his life. Got any suggestions?

Staph infections and Allergies

My border collie was diagnosed with a skin allergy, which led to several staph infections. My vet said the most likely cause of the allergy was either food or fleas - we were lucky enough not to have a flea problem, and a change in diet (removing beef and wheat) has worked wonders. So, I was thinking it is the removal of the fleas that needs to occur....there are heaps of natural remedies on the internet. I have found that adding garlic to a meal each day, and spraying coat and bedding with a solution of vinegar, water and essential oil (either tea tree, lavender or eucalyptus) to be very helpful. Good luck.

News to me

Wow, I did not know that dogs can get staph infections from fleas. I used to have a dog that would get "flea alergies" that would give her (and us) a lot of problems though.
