ACCER asks:Grass Ordinances

Do you feel that ordinances requiring you to keep your grass at a certain height are a good or a bad thing for the environment?

They are stupid

I think those ordinances are just silly. Tall grass may not look great (a matter of opinion) but it's not dangerous so it should be up to the land owner.

Size Matters

Only to the grass. Some local town leaders just need to make up silly laws to boost their low self-esteem.

you are kidding

right? so how do they know you've broken the regulations??? I've got a picture of an army of little council inspectors carrying clipboards and wearing glasses, running around with tape measures measuring every blade of grass....

it might

make sense in a high risk of fire area.. but then in that case it isn't just a local ordinance, it would be specified as a safety measure, avoiding any protests.

The jury is still out

I think such ordinances are a bad idea, because I don't know that anyone really knows the effets of keeping your grass short like that.

Different Reasons...

A former town of our residence maintained laws for short grass because of the fire hazard. In that sense it was better for the environment, because short grass doesn't burn as quickly or hot as long grass.

Maybe sometimes...

I'd normally say it's ridiculous as I see no point in keeping grass short except that some people see it as aesthetically pleasing, but I think HereToday's answer makes a good point and highlights a reason why it may be a good idea at times.
