I've just started recycling, and I've been told that I cannot include dark bottles. What's wrong with trying to recycle dark bottles?

In our little town we have a free weekend to take any hazardous chemical to the dump ; we also have a Saturday where you can take all of your papers and have them shredded on the spot. Does your town do this? Should you think about trying to advance this idea?
