And yes, this week, I cannot get enough of Honda. In a week of news reports of a sagging economy spurred on by outrageous gas prices, with promises of more than outrageous gas prices in the future, this company has brought a little silver lining to our dreary gas cloud. The silver lining gets a little thicker when this car is released June 16th.

Honda FCX Clarity

Honda has succeeded in releasing the first car into our market that requires no gas. They have wasted no time in leading the pack of automakers into the future with a car that doesn’t rely on oil to get where it needs to go.

The FCX Clarity runs on a fuel cell. The fuel cell technology runs on electricity that has been made from combining oxygen and hydrogen. So that means it doesn’t need to be recharged. This emission free method makes even the gas sippers of today look primeval.

More Info

They are already taking applications to get one, and the lucky drivers chosen will be announced the day it is released. Refilling stations are only in southern California right now, but others are in the process of being installed. As the refilling stations expand to other areas, this vehicle will expand also to be available to the public. Currently, the Clarity will be leased out at about $600 per month, which also covers maintenance, to the Santa Monica, Torrance, and Irvine areas.

What is really great about all this is that they are actually working on a home refueling device that can be bought to fuel these cars at home. This will be known as a Home Energy Station. The capacity of miles a FCX Clarity can get before it needs to be refilled is about 270 miles.

It only comes in one color right now, a deep red. This sounds like the first cars that were made by Ford, that only came in in one color as well---black. Historical times call for simple color choices.

It also goes up to 100 mph. And as gas prices rise, people will be racing to get in line for this one vehicle that leaves gas behind.
