Green City in China

China wetlandsA city that uses minimal energy, is environmentally friendly, is nearly carbon neutral, and has plans to be self-sustaining, sounds too good too good to be true! Within 3 years, China expects to begin phase one of the prototype for a green city. It may seem surprising that environmentalist are not supporting the plans for this eco-city. The reason that the environmentalists aren't supporting the plans for China's eco-city is because of the location, not because of the plans. The planned area of development is in the wetlands of China. Though the city will accommodate varied income levels, it will not accommodate farming and it will not accommodate the raising of livestock. Farmers are concerned they may not be compensated for the investment in their farms. Farmers aren't the only ones that ask if it necessary to sacrifice the farmers to save the planet.

The idea of destroying an important eco-system to develop a city that is designed to help save our planet and to become the example for cities around the world, just doesn't make sense to some. Is it really necessary to destroy an already endangered environment, the wetlands?

The idea of a city that uses renewable energy and may become self-sustaining is exactly what our planet needs. China is taking a big step towards the day when cities will reduce the impact on the environment. Their prototype can be an example to cities around the word. Our planet needs more countries willing to do their part to make a difference. More cities need to be making changes that will make a positive difference environmentally.

This video below, "China Plans Eco-Friendly City" will tell more and show the area where the city will be built.
