Helix-Shaped Wind Turbine

helix-wind-turbine.jpgA couple of weeks ago, a friend and I were in the car, discussing the general public’s reluctance to commit to renewable sources of energy. One argument against wind energy, for example, is that it would take too many wind turbines to provide energy on a large scale. But the answer is simple, my friend exclaimed. If it won’t work on a large scale, just use wind energy on a small scale! Small wind turbines are easy to install and affordable, and can easily provide enough electricity to power a home, business, or farm. Now, small-scale wind energy has become even more accessible. Even if you live in an area with high turbulence or that doesn’t get much consistent wind, you can still harvest energy from the air currents around you—with a helix wind turbine. Helix Wind has come up with a small turbine that will harness wind from any direction and thus can make use of even the lightest breeze. The company currently manufactures a 2kW model, with a larger 5kW turbine in development and expected to be on the market in January of 2008. Not only does the Helix turbine make it possible for wind power to go where it never could before—it looks beautiful while it saves the world!

Too often we've not paid interest to the natural power sources. Wind is a very good (and free) way to produce electricity.

They should put these up all along working train tracks. The wind from passing trains would do wonders, as well as the idle wind when nothing is around.

To really get integrated into the American suburbia, they need to offer these at Lowe's or Home Depot with professional installation (as they do now with natural gas whole home generators).... American's won't buy them on the scale they need, unless they're available at the L/HD stores.

I admire who discovered this and I would like to learn on how to acquire this wonderful earth saving machine. I am from Philippines we are a poor country and paying electric bill with enormous amount is a big expenses to a family who's average salary is only 15o dollars a month and our government can not do anything about because we depend on fossil fuel which we all know the price is sky high could you help me build one of your wind generating power so that i could help my fellow country men. Please help us. thank you.

I would make the claim that I am the original inventor of this device though I understand that throughout history many inventions have been produced simultaneously. I am happy to see this manifest. It can be improved upon for propulsion by inserting the helical blade into a cylinder and then housing that cylinder within another cylinder so as to provide a surface for rotation. If constructed of ferromagnetic materials or magnetised electricly it can also be induced to rotate magneticly.
