Solar panels that fit in your pocket are ideal for today’s world, when most people carry at least two different electronic devices on them at all times. Soleitec, a Korean company, is manufacturing a few versions of a foldable, portable set of photovoltaic panels. The operating voltage ranges from 1.2V to 3.7V, and is enough to charge a cell phone for two hours of use. Newer versions of these panels are thinner, smaller, and produce more power. They also come with a belt clip for easy portability, as well as a retractable cord. Imagine hearing, “oops, I forgot my solar panels,” instead of “oops, I forgot my cell phone charger!”
Other companies such as Brando, in the U.K., are also making small, portable solar chargers. Brando’s version can be plugged in to an AC outlet in times of darkness, to charge its internal battery, and you can adjust the voltage from 4.5V to 9V depending on the needs of your particular device. Perfect for everything from riding on the bus to outings in the wilderness—we’ll never have to go without music again!
