Throughout history, there has been scientific based predictions. These predictions have included that end-times are upon us, an ice age is around the corner, a Y2K disaster is eminent, and current predictions of the effects global warming. With each earth changing prediction, comes research and valuable information. Even when the predictions don’t come true, we still have the valuable results of the research that is done. It is a good thing to be armed with as much information as possible so we are prepared in the event that the predictions are true. But often the big picture is missed as immediate solutions are focused on.
Right now, there is a big push for alternative energy options. It cannot be argued that we should use free energy from the sun and wind and we shouldn’t pollute or waste resources. Sadly, in the rush to do good, some close their eyes to the costs involved. Not just the monetary cost, but also the energy and resource costs
Habitats are being destroyed to build eco-friendly cities and wind farms. Resources are being consumed to provide curbside pickup of recyclable materials. When choosing alternative energy and eco-friendly options, there needs to be research on the energy and resources that are being consumed. Recycling trucks need to be fueled, cleaned, built, maintained, and stored. Windmills need to be built, transported, and “planted” on land.
There is no need to stop the pursuit of finding alternative energy sources and new ways to use them. Slowing down may be all we need to do to find alternatives that don’t consume more resources than they protect.
In the video below, Peri discusses the above concerns and supports his beliefs with graphs and historical information.
