The US has the need and the means to make the change over to bio-diesel. Other countries like Brazil have already been successful solving their energy crisis using bio-fuels. Here in the US, cotton gins and other processing systems are already in existence and can easily be changed over to produce fuel from discarded oil from cooking. Bio-diesel is an ultimate alternative because it recycles used cooking oil, vehicles can currently run on it with no modifications, and it is a neutral fuel.
Millions of gallons of used cooking oil are discarded every year. The discarded oil can contribute to pollution and contaminate water. Using this discarded product to produce bio-diesel is nothing new.
Bio-diesel fuel that is made commercially or made at home can be used without any modifications to vehicles that already run on diesel fuel made from crude oil. When using bio-diesel the fuel filter will need to be changed more frequently, but it is a small price to pay for all the advantages of using this alternative fuel.
It is a mystery why the US is not making this fuel more available. It is hard to understand why a resource that can provide fuel is discarded. Willie Nelson believes providing financial support for implementation would move the transition forward at a faster pace.
Willie Nelson has been running his buses and trucks on bio-diesel since his wife introduced him to it when she wanted to purchase a car that was run on bio-diesel. He even uses it to fuel his Mercedes. Willie has been working with Farm Aide for about 25 years and bio-diesel is a way to make farming valuable again. The following video is an interview he did discussing bio-diesel.
